David Cunningham - Our Rising Star
To celebrate his nomination in round 12 for the NAB AFL Rising Star Award, we welcomed Carlton’s David Cunningham down to Cobras training on Wednesday night. David played all his junior football at the Canterbury Cobras to Under 14 when he played on with our affiliate club, Boroondara Hawks until Under 17.
When announced as the Round 12 Rising Star, David nominated Canterbury JFC as his Junior Club. As a result, he presented our Club with an award from sponsor NAB: a cheque for $1000, and a selection of fantastic equipment which will be put to great use!
David met up with our Under 11 and 12 teams along with Cobras Club President John Rutledge and members of our Club’s Committee.
David Cunningham and Rob (from NAB) with our Cobras rising stars of the future!
Here at the Cobras we are very proud of David’s achievements and thankful for his support. We will certainly keep a keen eye on his progress with the navy blues as he continues to impress in his AFL career.
Congratulations on 100 games!
WOW! Our third "100 gamer" in three weeks in U14!
Harry Kimmitt celebrated his milestone game against Beverley Hills last Sunday. Harry has played with the Mighty Cobras for seven years since tackers, barely missing a game in that time.
He is a courageous defender in our team, a very strong mark and works hard in every contest. Harry is a tenacious and determined player, and sets a great example to others around him.
Congratulations Harry, you should be very proud of your achievements here at the Cobras. Well done!
The U14 clash in round 10 at Canterbury vs Bulleen Templestowe was a significant one for Matthew Dickinson who played his 100th game for the Cobras.
Matthew is a determined player in defence who makes his opponent work hard for every possession. He gives the team great drive into attack, is a strong mark, and a smart user of the football - always bringing other team members into the game.
This is a wonderful achievement, one earned through dedication at training and preparation for every game - a great example for our younger players at the club.
Congratulations Dicko on 100 wonderful games at the Cobras! Well done.
On round 9 at Rathmines Reserve in Hawthorn, Michael Thomson played his 100th game against Hawthorn Citizens in our under 14 team.
Michael is a tireless worker in the ruck each week for the mighty Cobras, often against far taller opponents. He sets a great example to our younger players both for his strong work ethic as well as his impeccable sportsmanship shown each week.
This is a hard earned milestone for Michael and his family to be very proud of – Congratulations Michael!
Come along and join Matthew, Michael, Harry and all our recent milestone award recipients in celebrating their achievements when they are formally recognised by our club at our Friday Family Fun Night on 21 July from 5pm.
